Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve got answers to the things you’re wondering.

Will there be food?

Yes. There will be SO MUCH FOOD! The Shediac Renaissance Faire will be catered by Shediac Wonderland’s three restaurants:

A special Renaissance Faire menu is being created specifically for the event.

Outside food and drinks are not permitted and will be removed during bag check.

Will there be turkey legs, pickles, and candy apples?

Yes. Absolutely.

No proper Renaissance Faire would be complete without them. Guests can expect giant turkey legs, crunchy pickles, and classic candy apples, along with many other delicious treats.

Our food program is being crafted by Shediac Wonderland’s three restaurants (Morse et Marteaux BBQ Smokehouse, Bistro Le Moque-Tortue, and Adorable Chocolat)  with a special menu inspired by the spirit of the Faire.

Come hungry.
We promise you won’t leave that way.

Can I bring weapons or prop weapons?

Real weapons are not permitted. Costume prop weapons may be allowed but must be:

  • Approved by event staff at Prop Check
    • Peace-tied before entering the Faire

The final prop policy will be published closer to the event.

What does “peace-tied” mean? Peace-tying means securing a prop weapon (such as a sword or dagger) so it cannot be drawn from its sheath or used. This is usually done with a zip tie.

Do I have to wear a costume?

No, you absolutely don’t HAVE to. But we’re thinking you’ll WANT to! Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Many guests choose to dress as:

  • Knights
  • Peasants
  • Pirates
  • Nobles
  • Fairies
  • Medieval or fantasy characters

Guests who prefer modern clothing are absolutely welcome.

Are there costume restrictions?

Yes. To maintain a safe and family-friendly environment, the following are not permitted:

  • Sharp or functional metal weapons
  • Firearms of any kind
  • Clothing with offensive language or imagery
  • Costumes impersonating modern emergency personnel
  • Any prop weapon used in an unsafe way

Foam, wood, or plastic toy weapons are allowed if handled safely.

The event reserves the right to deny admission or remove anyone wearing attire that disrupts the experience of other guests.

Overall, the Faire is intended to be a place where children, parents, and grandparents can all enjoy the adventure together.

Will the programming be in English or French?

The Shediac Renaissance Faire is a bilingual event, just like the community it calls home. Some performances and events will be in English, some in French, and some in both. The full program schedule — including language details for each event — will be announced closer to the Faire.

What is the best way to contact the organizers?

The best way to contact the organizing team is by email:

shediacrenaissancefaire@gmail.com

Is the event dog-friendly?

No. Due to large crowds, prop weapons, fire effects, loud sounds, and large animals, pets are not permitted on the Faire grounds.

Service animals are of course welcome.

Will the programming be the same on both days?

No — each day of the Faire will feel different.

Both days will feature some of the same core attractions — the marketplace, food vendors, roaming characters, and many of the main performers. However, the schedule, storylines, competitions, and special events will change from day to day.

Some shows, demonstrations, and surprises will only take place on one specific day, and roaming characters may appear in different places with different antics depending on when you visit.

In other words, Saturday and Sunday are two different chapters of the same adventure. Guests who attend both days will discover more performances, more encounters, and more unexpected moments than those visiting for a single day.

A detailed program schedule will be announced closer to the event.

Are there nearby hotels or accommodations for out-of-town guests?

Shediac and the surrounding area offer a variety of accommodation options, from hotels to cottages to campgrounds.

The logo for the Shediac Renaissance Faire is a shield featuring a lobster-king carrying a sword, in red, black and gold.

The Shediac Renaissance Faire is produced by Shediac Wonderland, the family of Alice-in-Wonderland-inspired businesses created by Sébastien Després and Heather Wright. Le Moque-Tortue (our board game bistro), Morse et Marteaux BBQ (our smokehouses throughout Shediac), Le Griffon (bed & breakfast), The Neptune (our Drive-In Theatre), Adorable Chocolat (our artisanal chocolaterie), Bazar Neptune (Saturday market), and Witzend Tours & Adventures (tours, escape rooms, and concierge): each one a chapter of a larger story about what happens when a community decides to take play seriously.

The Shediac Renaissance Faire is the chapter where the whole town becomes the stage, the centuries blur, and nobody is entirely sure whether the spectacle is in the arena or in the crowd.
